The best free software for personal use – Part 28
I down load freeware frequently and I’ve seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst.
The best freeware available are those programs that are truly free. The ones that don’t limit their functionality or usage. The main thing that would set them apart is their usefulness. Are you actually able to use this program for a purpose instead of having it take up valuable space on your hard drive?
The best freeware I’ve ever down loaded was avi anti virus personal edition. It wasn’t limited very much in functionality and it worked. Open office is another program that is entirely free and is a Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsHow to check your computer for errors
Computers will make a lot of mistakes while they are running. This is because the software that makes them run is too complex for it’s own good. The result is a computer full of errors that need to be corrected.
Windows has an integrated tool to do this since windows 95. It’s not the best to do this but it will do the job. Scan Disk will check your entire hard disk for errors, from the folders to the disk surface. The process will take a long minute before it ends but int he end you can be sure it will correct all the errors it finds plus it will mark the bad sectors so the windows will not write data Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsWhy computers are frustrating
So, how many times have you banged your head against the wall this week? No, I don’t mean the metaphor which means that you are really mad. That’s too gentle. I mean literally banging your head against the wall. The demonstration is usually accompanied by shouting “xxx am/is/are so stupid” with xxx as I/you/this software/mouse/cat/dog/the Earth/&c. (sometimes you don’t really know what is the subject anymore). Well, at least twice last week for me. I don’t know about next week, maybe 1, since I have just solved some major stupidity with my computer. Come to think of about this issue, it is a miracle that I am still alive.
Now, how many times? I hope your head, and your computer, are Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsWhat is ripper software?
Remember the old days of music when all we had were records? They sounded great, until they became a little scratched, or were left in the sun and melted and warped a bit. Then we had cassette tapes. They were a bit more portable than a record, but the sound quality wasn’t quite as good, plus they had the added disadvantage of it being hard to locate the particular song you wanted to listen to.
Then along came the CD! It was smaller and more portable than a record, more convenient than a cassette, and played music in glorious digital sound. For years, and even to the present day, CD’s ruled the roost.
But then the MP3 revolution began. In Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsComparing Googles Gmail and Yahoo! Mail – Part 1
With today’s main vehicle of sending letters being electronic mail (e-mail), dozens of web-based e-mail programs have been sprouting left and right to vie for Internet users’ attention. Each boasts of features which are not present in the others, and frankly, choosing among all of them has been difficult in the earlier years. As time passed and improvements were introduced, most of us became more comfortable in either one or two of these e-mail programs. Two of the web-based e-mail services which surfaced as being most utilized by individuals are Google’s Gmail and Yahoo! Mail, both of which are free services (although Yahoo! Mail also offers a paid version in the form of Yahoo! Mail Plus).

No CommentsSoftware reviews: GEAR DVD 7.03
Until recently I had never heard of this software package, and taking into account the competition in the market, I was slightly dubious about how good it would be.
Unfortunately, I was proved right. It doesn’t do anything new, its too simple and just seems to be a cheaper version attempting to copy other products. With no version available for Vista, this product seems outdated already.
I can see what the publishers have tried to achieve, a simple CD/DVD/Audio burner that is simple and easy for beginners to use. At its cheap price that seems to be the only market it fits. The drag and drop style interface is easy to use, but as soon as you want to change a setting Read the rest of this entry »

No CommentsComparing Windows XP with Apples OS
I get asked this question a lot, and to be honest, it gets kind of annoying. So I’ve finally decided to clear up the confusion. So, what are the differences between a Mac and a PC? Frankly, there isn’t much at all. The term PC is essentially a ‘Personal Computer’. In my mind, this means any computer which you own. For many years, the term has been attached to those machines running Windows-based operating systems. A Macintosh-based machine is as much of a PC as is a Linux-based machine. It is evident that there is a fine line with this term and is interchangeable between various platforms.
How these operating systems are delivered, is where the differences come into play. Read the rest of this entry »

The Winning Edge
Microsoft really created a winning product when it brought out the latest incarnation of its Office Suite bundle.
